This year, APS is launching an updated strategic plan, APS 2026: Faces of the Future. APS 2026 builds on the momentum, opportunity and impact that resulted from APS’ previous strategic plan, APS 2020. APS 2026 is also informed by the community’s priorities, as adopted by the APS Board of Education in February 2021, which are focused on early literacy, equity and postsecondary workforce readiness.
The APS vision, mission, core beliefs and three of the goals are remaining the same. However, APS 2026 has a fourth goal. Goal 4 deepens our students’ connection with their community of support. The four goals are:
Goal 1: A Plan for their Future
Within the first semester of each year or upon enrollment in APS, every student will create or review plans that include goals for academic achievement, graduation, extracurricular and volunteer service learning, work experience and college and/ or career. Students will continue to revise this plan throughout the year and their academic careers.
Goal 2: A Set of Skills to Implement their Plan
APS students will develop the academic, social-emotional and Colorado Essential skills needed to implement their plans. Social emotional skills include those related to self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, social awareness and relationship skills. Colorado Essential skills include those needed to be communicators, problem solvers, community members and empowered individuals.
Goal 3: Credentials that Open Doors
In addition to a high school diploma, APS students will also have access to earn the following credentials: college credits, industry-based certificates, workforce training certificates, internship/externship completion certificates, digital badges, Advanced Placement credits or certificates and/or International Baccalaureate diplomas or credits.
Goal 4: A Community of Support
Students will identify and connect with their community of support to strengthen their networks and bring their plans to life.
APS students and their families define what future success means for them, but no matter what their successful futures look like, all students need plans, skills, credentials and a community of support.
