Apply to Be a Member of the APS Equity Workgroup

The leadership in Aurora Public Schools heard through the Promise 54 work that the diversity, equity and inclusion strategy in APS required more depth and clarity. Since 2014, APS has been engaged in Pedro Noguera’s Excellence in Equity framework. Feedback from APS staff, leaders, and stakeholders led to the decision to continue to utilize this framework. In order to move the equity work forward, APS is partnering with Colorado Education Initiative (CEI) ( to facilitate a workgroup of APS stakeholders to develop a concrete plan to operationalize the Excellence in Equity framework. Implementation of the framework includes:

  • Revising APS’ existing equity definition and developing districtwide definitions of diversity and inclusion, and
  • Determining more specifically the work and types of actions that would be reflected in each component of the “Excellence in Equity” framework.

As this work continues, input from various stakeholder groups is important. APS and CEI will be launching a workgroup of approximately 20-30 stakeholders to guide this work. To ensure a variety of groups are represented, a brief application has been created by CEI. The application is available in English, Spanish, Amharic, Arabic, Burmese, French, Karen, Nepali, Somali, Swahili, Vietnamese. If you are interested in joining the workgroup, the completed application must be submitted by Tuesday, Nov. 30. All are welcome and encouraged to complete the application. CEI is looking for a wide representation of stakeholders including students, parents, teachers, administrators, district staff, and Aurora community members.

Applications will be reviewed by CEI and they will reach out to individuals if selected for the workgroup. CEI’s goal is to notify those selected for the workgroup by Friday, Dec. 3. Meetings will be held approximately two times per month.

Throughout the process, should you have any questions, please reach Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education (CLDE) Director Ashlee Saddler at
