Employability Skills

While enrolled in the Fashion and Design program, students will be expected to work on various employability skills that could be related to the industry recognized certificate/credentials listed above. See some examples of how students will work on these skills below:

  • Creativity and Innovation
Creativity is the cornerstone of fashion design. Fashion designers need to constantly come up with innovative ideas for clothing, accessories, and overall fashion collections. They use their creativity to design unique, eye-catching garments, combining various elements such as color, texture, and style to create fashion pieces that stand out in the market and resonate with their target audience.
  • Technical Proficiency
Technical proficiency is essential in fashion design to bring creative concepts to life. Designers must be skilled in pattern making, sewing, and using design software to create prototypes and finished garments. For instance, a fashion designer may use their technical skills to create detailed patterns and prototypes for a new clothing line, ensuring that the designs are both aesthetically pleasing and functional for wear.
  • Attention to Detail and Quality Control
Attention to detail is critical in fashion design to maintain high product quality. Designers and their teams must ensure that each garment meets specific standards for fit, construction, and aesthetics. For example, quality control specialists inspect finished garments to identify any defects or deviations from the design and make necessary adjustments to ensure that the final product is of high quality.
