Blood-borne diseases are carried and spread by human blood and other body fluids. Body fluids include blood, semen, vaginal secretions, drainage from cuts and scrapes, vomitus, respiratory secretions, and saliva. Body wastes such as urine and feces are not included in the OSHA definition unless they are visibly contaminated with blood. However, caution should be exercised when handling any body secretions because other diseases may be present.
