Pickens Tech Sweeps State VICA Awards

Students from T.H. Pickens Technical Center won 88 awards at the Colorado State SkillsUSA Vocational Industrial Clubs of America contest in Colorado Springs.

Competitions were held in categories such as job interviewing, health knowledge, motorcycle service, entrepreneurship, technical drafting, and welding.

Pickens students won 37 state championship medals, 27 second place medals, and 24 third place medals. “The students were amazing,” said Rick Bettger, assistant principal of Pickens. “I also want to congratulate and thank the faculty and staff members who assisted these students in making these outstanding achievements possible.”

SkillsUSA serves more than 264,000 high school, college, and professional members enrolled in technical training programs. The organization promotes understanding of the free enterprise system and involvement in community service activities.

Many Pickens students will travel to the National VICA contest this June in Kansas City.
