The possible scenario of a pandemic flu outbreak in a local school plays out in an exercise planned to prepare a school district, staff and local emergency preparedness groups.
The Aurora Public School district will conduct this exercise to focus on pandemic planning which can be utilized in any critical incident. The information provided and role playing, will help participants understand what they can do to protect themselves, their site and what the district will do as a global response in the event of a pandemic.
APS is pleased to welcome representatives from Tri-County Health and the Aurora Office of Emergency Management to the tabletop exercise that simulates an emergency pandemic situation for problem solving in an informal environment.
The objective of this exercise is to evaluate the emergency response plans of the district, the Incident Response Team, schools and support sites, as well as to test our ability to interface with local emergency responders during a crisis.
The Incident Response Team will conduct the annual tabletop exercise in the commons area of Gateway High School from approximately 8:00 a.m. – Noon, Monday, April 2, 2007. Sign-in and continental breakfast are from 7:30 - 8:00 a.m. with play to begin promptly at 8:00 a.m.
Administrators have been encouraged to include staff members who may support their school site during this type of emergency situation and this year's newest administrators in APS are required to attend.
