Dedicated ELD
The purpose of dedicated ELD is to advance learners' knowledge and use of English in increasingly sophisticated ways, especially focused on the successful use of academic language necessary to accelerate their learning. It is essential this course is taught by a certified or endorsed instructor, that students are grouped by language development levels and is taught daily during a protected block of time.
Embedded ELD
The purpose of embedded ELD is to teach students grade level skills, concepts and knowledge using strategies, supports and scaffolds aligned to their linguistic and cultural repertoire and their level of English language proficiency. This ensures students strengthen their abilities to use English as they simultaneously learn content through English. It is essential this provided by all teachers of Multilingual Learners throughout the school day across all subjects.
