Leaving your child with someone else can be difficult

Options for your child

Not sure what to look for, or what to expect with child care?

What happens when your child care isn't available?
  • Make a backup plan for when your regular child care is temporarily unavailable
    • Which relatives, friends, or neighbors might be available to help you on an emergency basis? Talk with them about when they might be able to help.
  • What if no one else is available, and you HAVE to stay home to watch your child?
    • Make a plan with your school staff in advance to determine what you need to do in these situations
    • Check in with teachers to determine how you can make up assignments for occasional absences<
What to do if your child becomes ill?
  • It can be difficult to determine when to keep your child home if they are sick

As a young parent, you are eligible for FREE child care!

The Colorado Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) is offered through your county and will cover the cost of child care while a teen parent finishes school.

In 2016, in conjunction with the Teen Parent Collaborative, YPSP helped to successfully pass Colorado HB 16-1227. This bill helps teen parents easily access CCAP without having to file for child support.
