Materials used during the construction of many of the District's buildings contain asbestos. The concern about exposure in buildings containing asbestos is based on a link between occupational exposure in shipbuilding, mining, milling, fabricating, construction industries and respiratory diseases. The presence of asbestos containing material in a building doesn't mean that the health of the occupants is endangered. The key to reducing exposure for occupants is maintaining the asbestos-containing material in good condition.
To ensure the safety of its building occupants, Aurora Public Schools has taken a proactive approach in managing asbestos building material for the past 20 years.
