Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

What is IPM?

IPM is a proactive approach to manage pests that focuses on preventing infestations and monitoring for pests. There are five basic components to an IPM program: pest identification, inspection/monitoring, education, action thresholds and multiple tactics to eliminate pests if established. Elimination tactics that are used include; sanitation, exclusion, habitat modification, physical and mechanical control and as a last resort, chemical control. The goal is to make it difficult for the pest to get into our buildings and to eliminate food and hiding areas if they do get into the buildings. Updates and tips will be e-mailed to the sites on ways to assist with this effort. An example would be why it is important to reduce clutter in order to eliminate areas for pests to hide. Your cooperation and assistance with this transition is much appreciated and we look forward to working with everybody.
