School Garden

Youth Farm Stand Program (DUG sponsored) is a single-vendor farm stand located on school grounds that is run by students to sell freshly harvested produce from their school garden and in some cases, local farms to their communities.

The Kitchen Community was founded in 2011 and impacts nearly 100,000 children each day with nearly 300 Learning Gardens in school and community organizations across the country. Learning Gardens were developed to connect kids to real food through outdoor learning and experiential play to support the development of 21st Century Skills. A diverse array of lesson-plans and activities have been designed, developed, and implemented with success to promote Science, Engineering, Art and Math. The Colorado State University Extension Office established in 1912 is a division of the Office of Engagement. Providing trusted, practical education to help solve problems, develop skills and build a better future. The extension office is a wealth of local and indigenous knowledge and can certainly help with identifying noxious weeds and pests. They also offer many educational field trips and opportunities to connect students to real careers rooted (ha, no pun intended) in agriculture, animal science, energy efficiency, biofuel development, and many more areas of study.

Slow Food Denver is a chapter of Slow Food USA. The slow food movement is an idea, a way of living, and a way of eating. It is a global, grassroots movement with thousands of member around the world that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment.
