Information on “Momo Suicide Challenge” for Parents and Guardians

The “Momo Challenge” or “Momo Suicide Challenge” is a social media challenge that encourages users to harm others, themselves and even encourages suicide. Some children may be using Facebook, Youtube or WhatsApp to engage with a character known as “Momo”. The children are sent disturbing and graphic photographs and in some cases are blackmailed into self-harm and suicide.

As part of our APS CARES framework, we ask parents to have regular and serious conversations with their children about appropriate use of their cell phones and social media. Please advise your child not to post personal information on any social media site including their address, phone number and names of family members. As always, ask your child to report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior to a trusted adult.

If you think your child may need additional support, please contact your student’s school.
