COVID-19 NOTICE: Please reach out to your child’s after-school program to learn if and how they will be providing services for the start of the 2020-21 school year. For further information, view the latest Aurora Public Schools COVID-19 updates and resources.

The APS After-School System is a collection of programs that provide students in grades K-5 with access to physically and emotionally-safe spaces to continue their growth outside of the classroom. This system is housed within our district, allowing full ownership of helping our students shape successful futures.

APS after-school programs are inclusive, provide students with more opportunities to establish healthy relationships with adults and peers, and offer many ways for students to actively engage in learning new skills.

As a result of being involved in after-school programming, our students experience improved social and emotional competencies, reduced behavioral problems and more.

We Are Expanding!
Thanks to Aurora voters who passed the APS 2018 mill levy override, we expanded and will continue to broaden our after-school system! The mill levy override funding provides us with additional resources to create new opportunities and partnerships.

  • "For those of us parents that work eight plus hours a day and do not have a consistent source of transportation from point A to point B during working hours for our kids, having a program at the school is extremely important for their safety and for a parent's piece of mind." - APS Parent
  • “Partnering to provide a program creates a true sense of community.” - APS Principal
  • “I love to see families supported in a sustainable manner, so that parents have the peace of mind of knowing their kids are in a safe place after school with homework help, fun activities, and supplemental nutrition.” - APS Community Member

Mill Levy Override

Thanks to Aurora voters who passed the APS 2018 mill levy override, we expanded and will continue to broaden our after-school system! The mill levy override funding provides us with additional resources to create new opportunities and partnerships.

During the 2018-19 school year, approximately 1,200 of our students enrolled in after-school programming in 28 out of 34 of the district’s elementary and K-8 schools. In the 2019-20 school year, approximately 3,300 students are enrolled in 33 of our schools!

To support the launch of our expanded system, APS partnered with the American Institutes for Research. AIR helped to ensure APS after-school programming meets the needs and exceeds the expectations of our students, families and staff. The institute developed and supported the implementation of a two-phase short- and long-term strategy for coordinating and expanding the APS After-School System.

Share Your Thoughts

We encourage parents of students in grades K-5 to share feedback about their childrens’ after-school programs. Each response will inform our principals about how their school’s after-school programs are currently operating, how they can improve and which programs the school should welcome.

It is essential that we hear from as many parents as possible. Please share with other families at your school!
